Hiori turns to look at Karasu, the moonlight falling through the window over him like it was made for no one else. He turns silver in it, hair and eyes and mouth and skin. When he stays still for long enough, he can almost be a doll, still and quiet, perfect porcelain. It’s half the reason Karasu stops driving to begin with—to startle him into movement.
The 500 kilometer drive home from Tokyo to Osaka takes a lot longer than it should when Karasu has Hiori in the passenger seat and a crater of words he can’t get out of his chest.
